MineMaps FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about MineMaps, the game that lets you play Minecraft in Google Street View.

Is MineMaps the real Minecraft?

No. MineMaps is an independent, free fan-made game inspired by Minecraft. It is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. You do not need a Minecraft account to play.

Is it free?

Yes. You can play a number of Street View worlds for free every day, earn extra worlds by sharing the game, and play Demo Mode as much as you want. An optional Explorer Pass gives unlimited Street View worlds.

Do I need to download anything?

No. MineMaps runs directly in your web browser, on computer, phone and tablet. Nothing to install.

Can I play at my own address?

Yes. Any place covered by Google Street View works: type your address on the home screen. Places without Street View coverage cannot be loaded.

Does it change anything on Google Maps?

No. Everything you build or destroy only exists inside MineMaps. The real street and Google Maps are never modified.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Turn on the Shared World to see and share blocks with other players in the same place, and send a share link so your friends spawn next to you.

Why do some worlds say the servers are full?

Each Street View world costs money to load from Google. To keep the game free, there is a daily limit. When it is reached, come back the next day, use the Explorer Pass, or play Demo Mode.

Why is a place blurry or empty?

MineMaps uses the nearest Street View panorama. Some places have old, low quality or no imagery. Try an address a bit further down the street.

What is the daily treasure hunt?

Every day a chest is hidden near a famous place. Clues appear during the day; the first players to find and open the chest earn the most points on the leaderboard.

Is MineMaps safe for kids?

MineMaps has no accounts and no tracking cookies of its own. The chat is filtered, and players only see a name and an approximate location of other players. Players under 18 need a parent's permission to buy the Explorer Pass.
