Play hereAbout the Colosseum
The Colosseum, also called the Flavian Amphitheatre, was started under Emperor Vespasian around 70 AD and inaugurated by his son Titus in 80 AD. It could hold tens of thousands of spectators, who came to watch gladiator fights, animal hunts and public shows.
It is the largest amphitheater ever built in the Roman world, about 189 meters long. Earthquakes and centuries of stone looting destroyed part of the outer wall, which is why one side looks taller than the other today. It is now one of the most visited monuments in the world.
Playing at the Colosseum in MineMaps
You spawn on a real Street View point near the Colosseum, facing its arches. The stone walls you see are the real photo, and every block you add appears in front of them, so you can rebuild what time destroyed.
Everything you build or destroy stays inside the game. If you turn on the Shared World, other players who visit the Colosseum will see your blocks too, and you can send them a link to come and build with you.
Ideas to try
- Rebuild the missing part of the outer wall with stone and cobblestone.
- Dig under the street to make your own hypogeum, the tunnels where gladiators waited.
- Build a small arena and fight mobs in it.
- Compare your arena with the real one at the same scale.
