The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for the pharaoh Khufu around 2560 BC. It was originally about 146 meters tall and remained the tallest structure built by humans for more than 3,800 years. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one still standing.
It stands next to two other large pyramids, built for Khafre and Menkaure, and to the Great Sphinx. Historians still debate exactly how millions of stone blocks were cut, moved and raised so precisely with the tools of the time.
Playing at the Pyramids of Giza in MineMaps
You spawn on the Giza plateau facing the pyramids. Building a block pyramid here is a classic: Minecraft blocks are exactly what the ancient builders used, only much smaller.
Everything you build or destroy stays inside the game. If you turn on the Shared World, other players who visit the Pyramids of Giza will see your blocks too, and you can send them a link to come and build with you.
Ideas to try
- Build your own step pyramid next to the real ones, one layer at a time.
- Dig a hidden tomb under the sand and hide a chest in it.
- Build a block Sphinx and compare it with the real one.
- Count how many blocks your pyramid needs to look as tall as Khufu on screen.
