The Great Wall of China is not one single wall but a network of walls, towers and forts built over many centuries to protect Chinese states from invasions from the north. Most of the well-preserved parts visitors see today were built under the Ming dynasty.
Mutianyu is one of the best restored sections, in the mountains north of Beijing. The wall follows the crests of steep green hills, with watchtowers every few hundred meters, and its stone walkway climbs and dives with the terrain.
Playing on the Great Wall of China in MineMaps
MineMaps starts you on the wall itself at Mutianyu. The mountains and the wall around you are the real Street View photo, and building on top of them is one of the most impressive views in the game.
Everything you build or destroy stays inside the game. If you turn on the Shared World, other players who visit the Great Wall of China will see your blocks too, and you can send them a link to come and build with you.
Ideas to try
- Build a new watchtower on the wall, with a lookout on top.
- Extend the wall with cobblestone toward the horizon.
- Dig a tunnel under the wall to the other side.
- Build a beacon fire on a tower, like the signals once used along the wall.
